Hotels
Not all hotels on this tour will have air-conditioning.
Please also note that not all hotels provide a kettle. If
you require warm milk for a baby, we advise you to carry your
own bottle warmer and milk. Passengers may also want to take a
small travel iron and hairdryer, as many hotel rooms may not
have these facilities.
If you use services such as the phone or minibar or pay TV
whilst in your room, you will have to pay the hotel directly
when you check out; these services are not included in your
tour cost.
The maximum occupancy per room on this tour is three
person(s).
Other Advisories
General
It's advisable to drink bottled or purified water, as tap
water may not always be safe.
Consider getting comprehensive travel insurance covering
medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and theft.
Many nationalities, including residents of the UK, USA, and
EU, do not require a visa for stays up to 180 days. Others may
need a visa; check specific requirements. Upon arrival,
travelers must fill out a tourist card (FMM). This is usually
given on flights or at the border and must be kept for
departure. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six
months beyond your planned stay.
ATMs are widely available in cities, and most accept
international cards. Exchange rates at airports may not be
favorable; consider exchanging money beforehand or in city
banks. Credit cards are accepted in most tourist areas, but
it's a good idea to carry cash for small purchases and local
markets.
While most visits to Mexico are trouble-free, some areas
have higher crime rates, particularly related to drug cartels.
Stick to tourist areas and avoid traveling at night in
unfamiliar places.
High Altitude
You should only make trips to high altitudes if you feel
healthy. The following recommendations apply:
Advanced age is no barrier to high altitude. The altitude is
not a concern for blood pressure patients who are
well-controlled with medication. Asthmatics can travel to high
altitudes without any problems. High-altitude air is less
polluted with particles that can cause an asthma attack. People
with epilepsy who are well controlled with medication should be
able to negotiate the altitude.
Pregnant women: There may be a particular risk for pregnancy
even without pre-existing diseases over 2500-3000 metres.
Caution is therefore advised if in doubt; please consult your
doctor in advance.
Infants: Short-term stays at the mountain tops are
unproblematic. Infants and young children often cannot equalise
pressure during descent and are increasingly at risk of ear
irritation. Regular swallowing (drinking, sucking on a bottle)
during the descent can prevent aggravation. Because children
can chill faster than adults, always pay attention to
sufficient protection from the cold at high altitudes.
Sunglasses and good sunscreen are necessary on the
glaciers!
High altitude visits are not recommended for:
Lung and heart patients who are already short of breath
while at rest or climbing stairs are advised not to stay at
high altitudes. Patients with angina pectoris or severely
impaired performance with heart enlargement and heart failure
should not visit high altitudes. Those with medical therapy,
coronary artery disease (angina pectoris) and heart enlargement
should not visit high altitudes. Patients with a pronounced
risk profile for cardiovascular disease (smoker + high blood
pressure + diabetes + high blood fats + overweight + occasional
chest pain) should consult the doctor before visiting high
altitude. Do not stay at high altitude after having striated
muscles or a stroke.
Pick up and Drop off points & Times
Passengers should arrive at their pick-up point no later
than 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
Weather
Mexico City and Cancún offer very different climates,
so it's important to prepare accordingly if visiting both
locations.
Mexico City
Mexico City has a mild climate due to its high
altitude. The city experiences a temperate climate year-round,
with cooler mornings and evenings. The best time to visit is
during the dry season from November to April, when temperatures
are comfortable, typically ranging from 12°C to 24°C
(54°F to 75°F). However, nights can be chilly, so
bringing a jacket or sweater is recommended.
During the rainy season from May to October,
Mexico City experiences frequent afternoon showers. Even though
rain is common, daytime temperatures remain mild, averaging
around 18°C to 25°C (64°F to 77°F). Visitors
should bring an umbrella and waterproof shoes during this
season.
Cancún
Cancún, on the other hand, has a tropical
climate, meaning it is hot and humid year-round, with a
distinct dry and rainy season. The best time to visit
Cancún is during the dry season from November to April,
when temperatures range between 25°C and 30°C (77°F
to 86°F), and the humidity is lower, making it ideal for
beach activities.
Cancún experiences its rainy season from
May to October, with short but heavy afternoon showers and high
humidity. Temperatures during this time can exceed 30°C
(86°F), and the region is more susceptible to hurricanes,
especially between August and October. If visiting during the
summer, sunscreen, light clothing, and plenty of water are
essential to stay cool and protected from the sun.
Wheelchairs & Child Seats
We will accept lightweight manual wheelchairs for travel,
subject to them being capable of being stowed in the luggage
hold of the coach. It is also essential that a family member is
also on tour to push their wheelchair. Star Tours will also
request hotels for suitably equipped rooms; however, this is
only on a request basis and cannot be guaranteed.
Child seats are mandatory for children under the age of
12 or who are shorter than 150 cm. Children under 7 years old
or less than 125 cm tall must use a child seat with a harness
or a restraint system. Children between 7 and 12 years old or
between 125 and 150 cm tall must use a booster seat or a seat
cushion. It is the responsibility of the child's parent or
guardian to provide the appropriate child seat for their
child.
